In total, between heroes and generic creatures, there are dozens of units to control or battle with. The game consists of two campaigns, one very long and the other shorter, putting you in command of vast armies of fantasy troops, which include humans of various ethnicities, monsters, mythological creatures, undead, dragons and animals.

Each square has different characteristics that affect the movement and surrender of the units on the battlefield on the battlefield. Basically it is a turn-based wargame with maps divided into hexagonal boxes.
Fantasy general 2 switch review series#
I highly recommend you check it out, whether you're a fan of the series or not.It is not easy to write the review of a complex game like Fantasy General 2: Invasion, above all because it reveals itself with a certain slowness to the player, leaving the best it has to offer for its advanced stages. That aside, this is an amazing game that I recommend for all kinds of players. But that aside, things might not go as planned, and you'll find yourself stuck on some parts and having to go back and battle smaller enemies to level up. It has the kind of villains who are pretty much pure evil, which might be why they're such good villains.Īlso, the gameplay isn't too hard to fully get into, certain enemies and party members have certain strengths and weaknesses that are fairly easy to remember, and it doesn't have a time-battle system like Final Fantasy VII (where enemies attack if you don't do anything and you have to charge up before you can). I think even depression could be considered a theme (since Tidus and Yuna seem to have somewhat of a case of that). The themes in this game might go over the heads of some people and those themes sometimes include genocide, corruption, sacrifice, subjugation, and some other somewhat dark themes. This one isn't drastically inappropriate (at least, compared to FFXV and FF Tactics), but it is a bit more complex. The Final Fantasy series has never really been made for kids, but many of them are still appropriate for them (like FF6 and a few others). The reason I put this at age 12+, however, is because I don't completely recommend it for kids. It also shows that people should not be hated or discriminated against for their religion, nationality, or anything of the sort, a lesson a few of the characters have to learn over time. It shows that the world is not quite so black and white as to have clear, defined categories of good and evil, rather each category is of a subjective concept people who mean well could do bad things, actions have repercussions, and just because you're told something doesn't mean it's a universal truth.

It shows that one should question what they've learned rather than obeying it without question. All in all, the characters are a great and unique bunch who develop so well over time.īut there's also plenty of great messages this game teaches. Wakka is somewhat of a racist (I use that term lightly, because he hates the beliefs of a religious group, not the people), but eventually learns to respect other people no matter what and even starts to question his teachings. Yuna starts out rather unconfident and unwilling to ask for help, but eventually learns that she needs to rely on others for help and that sometimes you can't give up even if you seem to have no chance of winning. However, he still cares about other people's well being, even above his own, and consistently seeks to improve himself until he eventually achieves that end. Tidus, the main character, starts out as one of those naive carefree types. I'm not saying they're the best, most relatable characters out there, but they are quite good nonetheless. The characters, like many in the Final Fantasy franchise, are likeable, relatable, and just great characters. Every time I play this game, I just can't help but be immersed in the world, the characters, everything about it, and there are parts in the story that still make my heart throb.īut I'm not here to talk about my personal experience, I'm here to talk about what age group it's good for.
